Friederike Daumiller (born 1984)
Friederike is the designer of the fittings for PB 0110 bags.
Since her 16th birthday, she has been accompanied by a special Swiss Army knife—a gift from her father. A loyal companion over all these years.
At the time, Friederike was living in Munich when she had to take a business trip to Milan for a day. We all know that moment at the security check when, all of a sudden, an item appears in your bag that shouldn’t be there at that very moment—her beloved Swiss Army knife. She asked the security staff if they could possibly keep it for her, as she would be returning that same evening. But for security reasons, that was not an option. The only choices: either throw the knife into the trash or find a place to store it somewhere at the airport.
Thinking quickly, Friederike ran to the restroom and hid the knife in a secluded corner, confident that she would retrieve it in the evening. But when she returned from Milan and went to her hiding spot, it was empty.
Disappointed, she left the restroom, memories of her knife flooding her mind. Outside, she spotted a cleaning crew and felt a glimmer of hope. She asked if anyone had found a knife and explained her situation—about the security check, her hiding place, and her trip to Milan. But the answer was no.
Friederike is not usually a pushy person, but something urged her to keep talking. She described the knife in more detail, explaining that it was a gift and had been with her for so many years. In the next moment, one of the cleaners reached into the right pocket of her coat and, like a magician, pulled out exactly that knife.
This story about Friederike’s beloved object connects us. But so does our collaboration, which has lasted for 15 years. She has designed almost all the metal elements on our bags, and I deeply appreciate her sense of connections, dimensions, and details.
