We are quite excited about today's announcement: Our German leather is produced CO2-neutrally.
It is a beginning.
The European Union has the vision to be climate neutral in 2048. Not only in Europe, but worldwide, the awakening is noticeable as never before.
Also in the leather industry. For two years now, we have been working closely with a German, family-run leather tannery. Since 1899 they have been producing high quality leather from the remains of meat and milk production, and they live up to their claim of continuous improvement. It is one of four tanneries in Germany, which is awarded by the Leather Working Group, with the standard Gold. Also certified by ECO2L (energy controlled Leather), the first worldwide calculation and audited model for energy efficiency and CO2 emission for tanneries. Based on this, they invest in CO2 certificates that offset the emissions they produce. This is used, for example, to support a wind power project in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. In addition to reducing CO2 emissions, the project also contributes to improving the quality of life in the region through social engagement. A small example from our environment that gives me courage.
